Good Times - Scrapbooking Top 50

Hi there,

I am sharing the page I created for the Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia Challenge for January.

I started with a sheet of Marshmallow heavyweight cardstock that I had previously splattered black paint on. I have a folder of random background I have started that I try and dig into.

Next step was to finally christen  my el cheapo set of watercolours from Big W.  I loved the effect and will be playing with these again soon.

I added some black washi tapes and diecuts from an old Hip Kit that featured lots of Amy Tan. The watercolour look of the diecuts was perfect.

I also used two flair badges from Funky Flair Studio layered on some messy black thread.

My final step was matting the layout on black and then adding some stitching around the edges.

I love these pics of my Mum with two of her grandies. Special memories from our trip to Pokolbin last year.

Stuck Sketches Jan 15 Challenge - Everyday Happy

Hi there scrappy friends,

I am sharing my take on the Stuck?! Sketches 2nd challenge for January based on this amazing sketch:

I am busting my way through some older Hip Kits, so chose I chose one that featured lots of Amy Tan papers and diecuts. The rubber elements were from Dear Lizzy.

I wish I had stopped before the splatters but hey can't win em all. But it was an interesting experiment. I originally splattered with black liquid ink and it was gray and bleugh so I borrowed some Liquitex Carbon Black and oh my goodness the difference is amazing. Guess what is on my shopping list now.

I have used some flair from Funky Flair Studio in some bright happy colours to finish my embellishing.

Thanks for stopping by.

#30 days of sketches Day 4 Trimming The Tree

Wow, how fast are the days flying by in January.  The school holidays will be over before we know it.

The fourth Laura Whitaker sketch featured in Christy's Beautiful Life's 30 days of sketches was very different to my usual style so it was quite a challenge for me.

I  used an old Hip Kit  (November 2015) for this layout. The kit was newish to me though. A Hip Kit designer had a stash clear out sale so I managed to grab a few kits she was finished with.  Even though the papers were older they were mostly Hip Kit exclusives and new and exciting to me.

A closer look at the title and journaling.

Thanks for stopping by.

Stuck?! Jan 2018 - Photographer

Hey there,

I am playing along with the Stuck?! Challenge this month.

The first sketch of the month was this beauty

Such a fun sketch. And here is my interpretation.

I loved the strip of four photographs and felt like it would be perfect for telling the story of my littlest guy Sam and his love for my big camera.

I dug deep into my stash to pull out the Simple Stories Hello Summer collection that I am determined to finish (still love those gorgeous bright colours with the dark woodgrain).

Finished off with a Flair button from Funky Flair Studio and some camera wood veneers from Amy Tan and Studio Calico.

#30daysofsketches Day 2 Adventure

Have you checked out Christy's Beautiful Life on you tube yet?

I am loving the sketches so far - she is up to Day 15 today so I have some catching up to do.

Day 2 was another Laura Whitaker sketch (love her style)

And here is my version using the You Rock collection from Cocoa Vanilla to scrap some cruise photos of my hubby and I.

I added some stamping in black Archival ink using a stitched circle stamp from Kaisercraft.

I cut some elements from cut apart sheet to create my title cluster.

The final touch was some sprinkles with a Mr Huey Mist in Sherbet.

Loved how bright and fun this layout turned out.

Flowers...on a boy layout?

Scrap the Boys have challenged us to use flowers on a boy layout this month. I don't usually use flowers on my boy layouts (unless I am in the photo and then its a full on flower bomb) so this was a bit different for me.

My background uses a Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Faded Jeans and I have stencilled some Colour Blast in Steel. I love the splattery (yep that's totally a word) look that you get with oxide inks and water.

I used the Summer Fun kit from Funky Flair Studio adding in some white diecut flowers and leaves layered under my photo.

So what's your opinion? Flowers on a boy layout yes or no?

Hello Mister Awesome #Rediscoveryourstash

I am still playing along with the fabulous challenges by Sara Scraps and Khristina Sorge in the 30 day Spending Freeze Rediscover your stash challenge on Facebook.

Challenge No 6 was to use wood veneer. Khristina posted a gorgeous inspiration layout by Tegan for Paper Issues.

And here is my version

I used the wood veneer from Cocoa Vanilla "You Rock" with a few extra stars and arrows thrown in from my stash.

I used the packaging from the Collection pack for the strips across my layout. It was just too cute to throw away.

I layered in some extra papers from the collection and it was done.

I am loving the challenges in the Rediscover Your Stash group. There are some great ideas to use products differently to how I normally would. Always good to try new things.

I hope you get some creative time this weekend.

Coffee....sweet elixir of life

My family know there is no talking to Mummy in the morning before her coffee. First coffee then words.
So naturally the Kraft Plus challenge was calling me this month...Kraft plus a gorgeous coffee inspired mood board. Love!

First step coffee. I brewed a nice dark cup of coffee then set about splashing and painting it onto my background. I followed that with some stamping with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in brown using an alpha  to stamp out some coffee inspired words and also some coffee rings from a Darkroom Door stamp. It looked very effective (and smelled great too).

But as you can see it was mostly covered in the end.

I used lots of bits and pieces from my stash including the large coffee cup wood veneer from Flutterby Designs. I had been saving it for a while now - it's just too cute.

A little typing to finish my title..."There is no better therapy than coffee with a friend".

Thanks for stopping by.

30 Days of Sketches No.3 - You are my World

Following on from Sunday's post on Christy's 30 days of sketches project, here is my version of sketch No. 3 by Laura Whitaker. I love Laura's sketches so much.

I started with white cardstock and added some colour with the "packaging technique" and Mr Huey's mist in Sherbet.  I am still playing with the Cocoa Vanilla "You Rock" collection from my Design Team pack from Scrapping Clearly (did I mention how much I love this collection?), so all I needed to add were some sweet heart wood veneers from Flutterby Designs and some enamel dots from my stash.

Just look at that wonky stitching - no wonder I barely passed Textiles and Design at School. My skills have clearly not improved.

This layout came together really quickly. That is the magic of a good sketch.

Happy scrapping.

30 Days of Sketches Day 1 "That's My Boy"

Christy from Christy's Beautiful Life on You Tube has a great project happening this month with 30 days of sketches.

Each day she releases a new video using a new sketch and she has some great guests along the way too.

The first sketch by Laura Whitaker really caught my eye.

I am still using the remains of my Cocoa Vanilla You Rock collection from Scrapping Clearly. This collection is so versatile and I have really enjoyed working with it.

I loved the strips and fun circle elements on the sketch. I added in some teeny wood veneer stars from Flutterby Designs. They are so cute and just perfect for sprinkling about on a layout.

I also added some sprinkles with mist Heidi Swapp Colorshine in Navy and Studio Calico Mr Huey in Sherbert) and a wee bit of stamping in black ink with a texture stamp.

Are you playing along with Christy's 30 days of Sketches?

Should be a month full of inspiration.

Thanks for stopping by.

Wild Boy - Colour Blast Jan 2018 Challenge

Hi there,

This month's challenge in the Colour Blast Creative Corner group on Facebook is to use Colour Blast products on a black cardstock background using the following sketch.

I loved this sketch - so fun and versatile.

I started with the required black cardstock background and stencilled some Colour Blast paste in Steel using a Dylusions Stencil. Once that dried my next step was to try and bring in some more colour so I added some smudges and fingertip circles of "Just Blue" paste together with a teeny circle stencil. Lastly I added some smudges of Tangareen Dream. I love how vibrant the colours are on black cardstock.

Once my background was dry it was time for my paper layers and embellishing. I started with the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock collection.

I built up my main photo layers with a negative frame and some black punchinella .

Then it was time to embellish with plenty of the wood veneer from the You Rock collection plus some stickers and chipboard.

My title uses a funky wood veneer alphabet from Thickers combined with a chipboard sticker.

I felt like the layout needing some framing so I added a line around the edge with a Posca Paint Pen and some splatters of white mist and taa daa finished.

Thanks for checking out my layout today.

Will you be playing along with the challenge?

Also, did you know Colour Blast have started a subscription kit? The first kit ships in February and I am so excited to start building my Colour Blast collection. At the moment all I have are the Colour Pastes (which I adore and have nearly emptied) and one lonely Colour Spray, so the kits are going to be brilliant for me.

Hope you get some creative time over the weekend.
